Detailed Description

As part of a transformative effort to reshape business dynamics at Sherpa Outdoors, I undertook an initiative that leveraged data analytics to refine pricing strategies. My main objective was to ensure that our prices remained not only competitive but were also able to dynamically adapt to changes in the marketplace.

In this effort, I developed an advanced tool that amalgamated data from our e-commerce platform with competitive market data. This holistic view of our pricing landscape led to substantial improvements in our pricing decision-making process and efficiency. The tool is capable of autonomously recognising all brands listed on our site and populating a rich spreadsheet with data.

The algorithm behind the tool has several key features. It significantly reduces the time spent on each brand review, allowing us to update pricing and respond to market fluctuations more quickly. It enables instantaneous comparison with competitor pricing, helping us stay competitive while maximising profitability. It efficiently identifies products with low or negative gross margins, facilitating rapid price adjustments that protect our profitability. Additionally, it provides a comprehensive view of our pricing structure, thus facilitating data-driven decisions.

The human-centered approach of the tool ensures that it does not uproot all existing pricing structures. Instead, it incorporates existing pricing templates and automates tedious manual tasks, while allowing individuals to identify opportunities.

Understanding the key functions of price - covering costs and providing sufficient returns for the organisation, while reflecting the product's value and affordability for buyers - is at the heart of this pricing strategy. It's designed to navigate the complexities of customer perceptions towards price and offer the best value in a market where identical products are widely available.

The incorporation of data analytics and competitive insight into this pricing strategy has led not only to significant cost savings but also to the ability to make swift and accurate data-informed pricing decisions. I am looking forward to discovering further innovative methods of leveraging data for business strategy in the future.
